I will never forget the day the doctor called and confirmed I had Gastroparesis. My gastro-emptying test revealed zero emptying during the numerous hours of imaging. Following seven months of tests, all he could tell me was to Google diets for the condition and he would see me at my next appointment. I was confused and frustrated. It was only when I found Crystal Saltrelli's blog and book was I able to wrap my head around this condition, lifestyle changes, where to locate the necessary supplies, what to stock the kitchen and pantry with and educate myself about exactly what foods I could eat and how to eat them. Thanks to Living (Well!) with Gastroparesis and a month or so of a total GP diet, my stomach pain has decreased and my energy level has increased. This is by far the most informative, up-to-date book on this confusing condition. When I saw my doctor following the dreaded telephone call, I gave him a copy of the book and told him to EDUCATE himself -- after all, he is an gastroenterologist and is SUPPOSED to be the EXPERT. If you or a loved one has Gastroparesis, or even those in the medical field treating patients with the condition, this is the book for you. It is with me constantly for reference and I have made about 75 percent of the recipes. I am grateful to the author for her help. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found it -- most likely still suffering and searching for answers.
I am newly diagnosed with Gastroparesis and had no clue what to do. My doctor told me what I had after a gastric emptying nuclear test. I as confused & scared. I found this book very wonderful. I am trying to understand this disease & find the next step. This book helped a lot. I appreciate the author's personal story & help.
This book was full of good information on Gastroparesis; I even shared some of the descriptive passages with my doctor and the section on treatment. He had perscribed some medicine for me that actually made the condition worse and the book contained information we both needed to know! - It has been so frustrating to have an illness that up until 5 years ago was just called a "Stomach Migraine" (an end of the line name when no other illness covered the criterial). There is virtually no one to really talk to about the condition. This book helps make up for that void. - I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who has been diagnosed with Gastroparesis or who has stomach issues causing nausea and servere pain that may have the condition. The author has the illness, and has gone through most of the known treatments placing her in a position to adequately describe what she feels are the pros and cons. The book also contains some common sense steps people with the condition can take that doctors often do not even think of sharing - such as one should chew gum after eating to help increase salavation and the good enzymes needed to help digest food.
I don't know why a few people left one or two star ratings. They complained the book was too simplistic and you can find the same info on the Internet. Well, duh, of course you can find anything on the Internet. Some of us don't want to have to do our own research, hence the reason we buy and read books. I loved this book. I loved its simplicity too. I liked how the author broke everything down into a Q&A format. Very creative and super easy to understand. I love how she did this because it seems everything on the Internet is in medical and research jargon. I do think the author could have elaborated on some of the topics, especially the medications. So, yeah, I would like more research and medical jargon but at the same time that's also why I liked this book.I recommend this book as a GP primer.
Great compilation of information on a motility dysfunction that has very little public awareness or medical guide lines on how to deal with this problem if you have it. I highly recommend this book to anyone that has been diagnosed with gastroparesis. Take the information in this book and incorporate into your individual needs and situation and you will live a much better life. I know first hand, because it's helped me tremendously. Thank you Crystal Zaborowski!
Very well written and pretty much the information you might get from your doctor if they could take the time. I look at this as a reference book-after reading, I marked the pages that I would need over and over - I bought the Kindle version because for me, this is an invaluable tool in living with this condition. As somebody who has experienced this condition, the author was able to write with authority and a full understanding about coping with this condition.
A diagnosis of Gastroparesis seemed like the end of the world. While trying to learn more about the condition I found this book. I just finished reading it and have yet to implement the suggestions, but now I know where to start. I'm excited to try the recommendations and I am hopeful that I can improve my quality of life.
An excellent "beginner's" book on this medical problem for all ages. Suggestions for simple recipes and fairly understandable.explanations of the disease for those who have gotten a good (scientific) explanation from the doctor---and still didn't really understand it.(The exact cause of gastroparesis is unknown. It may be caused by a disruption of nerve signals to the stomach.)
