This was a good story! I do think what all Emily went through that the HEA happened way too quickly. She was stunted in her growth and behaved a lot like a child. Not her fault but that would happen with extended captivity. Plus with all the sexual abuse she went through a man's touch should've bothered her for awhile. The epilogue should've been a couple years later then they could've been united. She needed time to mature, have life experiences and not have a man touch her. The fact Cal didn't give her time bothered me and kind of diminished his credibility with me. It seems in almost all of the romance stories I've read the author has the man only wanting sex and a lot of them never put the woman first. It would've been nice if Cal had put her first for once and proved what a credible honorable man he was.Other than the timing of the HEA this was a very good book. I did read the extended epilogue offered at the end but it was very disappointing. Too much happened in that time period and it wasn't fully explained and was a letdown. It would've been better if the author made this into a series. It appears the author was too rushed to finish this story and then throw too much in the extended epilogue.
Cal lost everything ten years ago when his pregnant wife was murdered in a stagecoach robbery. He spent the first five years grieving and the next five years just existing. He’s become a trusted foreman on the ranch he works so when he finds fence posts that have been moved, his boss trusts him to deal with it. When he goes to the Circle C to enquire about the moved posts he happens upon a woman being raped and stops it. When she refuses to leave with him, he’s confused. What could possibly be going on here?Emily has been a prisoner in her father’s home for fourteen years. The ranch hands abuse and rape her and he allows it. On the day that her father and step-mother leave on a trip, one of the hands tries to rape her and is interrupted by a visitor – Cal. She fears any man and won’t leave with him. Can he really be willing to help her? Can he be the one she’s been praying for?
This story spent so much time on getting Emily out of Circle C, I lost that this was supposed to be a love story. Story is typical, damsel in distress transfers her affections to her hero. Hero decides to take care of Emily, but just could have pawned her off on her Uncle. Characters in this story had no depth and I didn't get a real sense of Emily or Cal. The action was well written, but that is where it ended.The extended epilogue available at the end of the book is terrible.
My only complaint is i wondered if Emily had enough time to recover from her trauma and be able to handle romance of any kind but i still found the book to be good and i was able to follow the plot of the story well. And i would still give it a good read for someone who enjoys this genra.Emily Carson has suffered greatly for many years being held hostage by her own father at the Cirle C ranch. How will she ever be saved if everyone believes she is dead. There are many horribly secrets yet to be revealed even the town Sheriff seems to know more then he lets on her own step mother isnt trust worth either she just needs someone to help her get a message to her uncle.Cal has lost his wife and unborn child hes the Forman from the neighboring ranch while out on patrol he notices the fence line has been messed with he decides to confront the owner of the Circle C and he arrives just in time to see Emily about to be assaulted by a ranch hand he helps the young girl who turns out to be Emily he dose his best to help her recover all that has happened to her and to heal her heart this western has action gun fights and plenty of secrets that will be revealed in the end.
I really liked this book. Poor Emily Carson is being held hostage by her father and step-mother. When her parents leave her alone by herself she is attacked by one of her father’s ranch hands. Cal Benson the foreman of Circle C ranch, a neighboring ranch. He hears Emily’s cries and comes to her rescue. Emily has an Uncle Robert who could help her but he needs to be contacted and she has not left the house in 15 years. Her parents have told everyone that Emily died 15 years ago. Cal does his best to help Emily and Emily thinks her prayers have been answered. There are other situations involved and mysteries to be dealt with but all turns out right in the end. I really like both Cal and Emily and how they care and trust each other.
This is a western suspense romance story that takes place outside of Dry Gulch, TX. A severe child abuse case had went on hidden at the Circle C Ranch for Emily since she was 5 years old. As far as the town knew she died and was buried 13 years ago as they were present for a child's casket funeral. The Bush Creek Ranch next to their property had no idea that Emily was alive, or so everyone thought until Cal the forman of Bush Creek Ranch pays a visit and the secret was suddenly exposed. Cal made it his job to make sure that Emily was rescued but there were so many secrets that was being used by the sheriff, Mr. & Mrs. Carson, Mr. Garrett and all the ranch hands at Circle C Ranch but that didn't scare him. All the secrets are revealed before the end of the story.
This is my first book from this author and I look forward to read more of ther books!Cal has been widowed for 10 years and he still griefs his wife and son tragic death. He doesn't think he is capable of opening his heart to anyone else. Until she discovers Emily and a misterious and very wrong situation in Circle C, his neighbors. Emily has been abused and lived as a prioner all of her young life. She desperately prays for a rescuer, so when Cal appears he seems to be God answer from Heaven. But HEA's aren't never easy to get...This is a stroy about love, forgiviness and second chances. The romance is sweet and tender. I liked the characters and the plot kept me interested as well. I recommend it to lover's of western romances!
