That was a good, if brief, introduction to the study of Biblical prophecy both personal and general.Several sections specifically address the controversy over the meaning of some of the parables. He explains several different views, and then explains why he believes the way he does. I may not agree with all of his conclusions, but many of them were very insightful.Finally, he teaches us from the first chapters of Revelation, the letters to the seven churches, what our duties are in these final days. That part was very personally convicting and encouraging.I found the use of the New Living Translation distracting. I wish they had used a literal translation instead of a dynamic equivalence translation. It draws my attention away from what the author is trying to say, and I feel that I should look up what it says in another translation.I received this as a free ARC through NetGalley and Harvest House Publishers. No favorable review was required, and it was my pleasure to provide my honest opinions.

This book is a very good read and brings attention back to the many challenges and inequalities that we as a country face on a daily basis.

When I read the title of this book I knew immediately that I had to read it. I am happy to say that I was not disappointed. Now I don’t personally really follow sports but I have two teenage sons and a husband so I am familiar with most of the athletes that were interviewed for this title. Regardless of whether or not, you follow sports if you follow the issues this book is a good one to check out.Despite my not following sports I am alive in this country right now so it is hard to miss the athletes who are standing up and speaking out on the issues that are affecting the black and brown communities. Unless you are living under a rock you have heard about Colin Kaepernick and his silent protest of taking a knee during the national anthem. You may be unfamiliar with the other athlete activists but this book will bring some of those individuals to light and perhaps, like myself, you will start to look at some of these athletes a little differently.We Matter showcases not only the athlete’s themselves who have stood up and spoken out but also some of the coaches, owners, and people in “power positions” in these industries who have also decided that it is no longer ok to sit back quietly and be bystanders in the injustices that are taking place. Reading the stories that some of these individuals share, not only about their feelings and reactions to things that we have seen happening to others in this country but about their own personal experiences is heartwarming. Learning of their involvement in trying to actively affect change is soo refreshing.There seems to be a common narrative among a lot of people who think athletes should simply, “Shut up and play!” Obviously, those people are not affected by the issues that are being spoken out about and are wanting to continue living in their blissful ignorance. I absolutely love the fact that the athletes are joining in and championing campaigns and introducing legislation and fighting right along with the rest of us who are tired of seeing our people as hashtags.This collection of interviews along with Thomas’s personal narrative is masterfully done and should be required reading for all young athletes. I will certainly be passing this on to my sons and other young men in my family. Not to make it an afterthought but I must say that the inclusion of interviews from the family members of some of the most recent well-known cases of black casualties was amazing and will certainly pull on your heartstrings. I cannot express enough how much I enjoyed this title. I think this book came at the right time and hopefully, this title and others like it will continue to roll out and will encourage others to pick up the torch and join in the battle and encourage those that are in it not to give**I received an advanced copy of this title from the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

Etan Thomas makes a tremendous effort to bring the voices of today’s athletes out of the background and gives them space to share their thoughts in his book of interviews with over fifty athletes, sports and media personalities. In addition he gives voice to surviving family members who’ve lost loved ones to police actions.It is good to hear from the athletes, but it is especially compelling to hear from family members who have buried their fathers, brothers, sisters and remain to endure the pain, suffering and often near debilitating depression after the media lights dim. What becomes apparent is how appreciative the family members are of the athletes that have offered their support either verbally and/or through small gestures.And subsequently the athletes do understand that the platform they enjoy allows their voices to amplify just a little bit louder than the average joe. And some more than others are warming to the task and see the injustices as part of their social responsibility to speak up and stand up.All the names you heard about, interviews with a family member are contained within. Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and others.The one thing that is seemingly offensive to Etan Thomas is the thinking represented by Willian Rhoden, in his book Forty Million Dollar Slaves. “[C]ontemporary black athletes have abdicated their responsibility to the community with treasonous vigor. —William C. Rhoden, Forty Million Dollar Slaves”I understand that most of the interviewees are contemporaries of Etan Thomas but be clear, there are no modern day Muhammad Alis here.The only one who can be mentioned in a sentence with Ali, Russell, John Carlos, and Tommie Smith is Colin Kaepernick. His taking a knee on the field has cost him his career. This is in no way to diminish the other athletes, but Etan seems to be positioning them as being great risk takers, hyperbolizing their “activism” when at times the risks are minimal.Etan was so bothered by Rhoden’s comment-he refers to the quote a few times-and that line of thinking that says today‘s athletes are not concerned with community politics and social issues, he has an interview with professor and scholar extraordinaire Michael Eric Dyson where he attempts to gently nudge Dyson into refuting or at least rebutting this thought thread. To his(Dyson’s)credit he doesn’t fall for it, giving acknowledgement to the current athlete, but also honoring the grand and great sacrifices of their predecessors. Dyson says: “But number two, there’s no question that there have been tremendous expressions of social conscience, but let’s be honest . . . there has been a transition from the sixties and seventies, when players like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Jim Brown and Muhammad Ali took stands in bold fashion for vulnerable populations of which they were a part.”Dyson goes on to explain that there has been a transition from social conscience to social service and so the athlete of today has different concerns and face different consequences for their “activism.”It seems like ESPN journalist Scoop Jackson has threaded the needle with his distinction between protest people and statement people. Carmelo Anthony is an example of a protest person. Scoop says, “So therein lies the difference. I see what everybody else is doing and they are making statements, which are great statements and very much needed in this day and age, especially with everything that is going on in present-day society . . .” This after he salutes Carmelo Anthony for his protests around the Freddie Gray killing in Carmelo’s hometown of Baltimore, MD.Etan Thomas was recognized early in NBA career an outspoken proponent of social and political issues and his pulling this project together is an extension of the work he begun early in his life. The book doesn’t have to be read in order, it is neatly divided into sections allowing you to jump to the interviews that most interest you. But the book is required to be read in its entirety. This book is probably the most disturbing I have read thus far. I must say I am not sure I could have endured all she did and kept going, I would have caved in. Her innocence was lost at a tender age of not understanding and the fear she encountered at that time as well affected her entire life and it was sad! No one on earth should ever have to live in fear like that and the most disturbing for me was not just the sexual abuse but her Mother!!!!

Reading this book was a sad experience and made me think of my own childhood. I wish her the best and hope she reconciles with her children . My oldest son has not talked to me over 20 years after my husband died i realized how much his father poisoned him against me. I too don't give up as life is so short. May the peace of our Lord lift is up

This book shows tremendous strength. She has been through so much and still standing. What a remarkable woman. I too was abused as a child from the age of 3 or 4 to 16 years old. People don't understand the impact that has on your life. It can make you a stronger person or destroy you. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations to Cassie for finally living her life. I pray her children will come out of their fathers home with minimal scars. I am sickened by her step father and mother and the fact that they went unpunished for their evil crimes against all of their children. I also hope that all the sisters may somehow reconnect and may have a relationship in the future. It's amazing how people can't drive without proving themselves able yet anyone can have children and no one questions it until either it's to late or until someone is already suffering. Good luck in your future Cassie and thanks for sharing your story.

Good book about a young girl who was abused and as her life went on, she seemed to choose those who would continue the verbal and physical abuse until finally she was encouraged to help herself.

This book is so sad. I kept thinking "Why doesn't she give up on him?" But then, what would I do in each of her traumatic experiences.While it was immensely tragic, it was so well written. She surely was the most abused person I ever knew of in my lifetime. So many years wasted for her hoping always to get someone to love her. I wish her all the best and hope all the children will understand someday and give her all the love she deserves.

When you hear this woman tell her story you are there with her and feeling things as if it were you. When she struggles to believe that "he won't do it again",albeit her step father or a husband, you want to reach out and set her free. Amazing Cassie.

I choose I high rating cause this book hit home with me. I would recommend this book to everyone. Cassie's story is something that many women and men go through hopefully reading her story will inspire you to speak up for yourself.

Book is many years old but still gives great ideas to plan a New Jersey day trip.

As an occasional visitor to New Jersey, I was thrilled to find this book. It goes way beyond the AAA books and the Chamber of Commerce handouts, with honest and objective descriptions of just about everything that's worth seeing and experiencing. For anybody taking a week's vacation, this is the best [...]you could possibly spend.If I lived in New Jersey, the book would become an even more essential resource. It would be consulted every time our family sat down together to plan an outing.

The 9th edition (which is being shown on the screen right now as of November 17), is still the best guidebook to NJ around. Published in 2000, it is more up-to-date than many others, and still shows plenty of personal opinions as well as the basic facts. Available mostly thru "used-like new" option on Amazon because the publisher is out of stock of new copies, but has plenty of books that were a tiny-bit bent when shipped in cartons or shipped back from stores that went out of business.

When I moved to NJ I joined a newcomers' club and offered to help run a Daytrips group. This book(including its various future editions)was our constant companion and ever ready reference. It also worked for the many house guests that suddenly appeared now that we lived near NYC. We had a great time visiting many of the sites Barbara had previewed for us...and her observations were right on. Note: She does advise that you check dates and time as these change.When I moved to GA I brought it with me and I often lend it to friends and friends of friends planning to visit NYC or "The Garden State". They are always delighted and wonder why we don't have such a resource for GA.

I recently visited a friend/colleague in New Brunswick and we took some excursions to whatever the "nuclear waste" state was supposed to offer. Actually, they had grass and trees and gorgeous parks that we visited over a long weekend. This book was in the front seat and I learned as much about this wonderful part of America from reading along the way as actually seeing it!

PLEASE keep in mind (as I did not pay attention to this) that this book if from 2006 and a lot of information is wrong or no longer available. By a lot I mean that, at the time of this review, of the 40 links to organizations or resource pages only 20 were still in existence, 18 were no longer in existence, 1 was a bad domain (.org instead of .com) and one link hadn't been updated since 2006. Don't get me wrong, of the 20 that are still around the stories are moving and the information helpful and there are some patterns (14 in all) but I didn't expect over 1/2 of the book to be irrelevant.

What to make, for who and where - including clear instructions and photographs of the finished projects. Not hard, not intimidating.

I belong to a knitting group that kints for causes listed in this book; mainly the Mother Bear.......... They handed out the patterns and I was so impressed that I purchased the used book from Amazon. Truly a beautiful book and the stories touch your heart. I only wish I could knit for all of the orphans of the world. The photography is magnificant.My only complaint is that the print is small and it is very dull. Ican cope with that situation but I am afraid that other people with seriouseye issues might have a problem. I am thinking of getting one of those page magnifiers. My eyes are average for my age. Please don't let thatstop you. You can always xerox the page and print it out in a largerfont if it is a problem.Please take up your knitting needles and do something for the cause. i LOVE this book. it is certainly inspirational. i love the process of knitting but have more than enough homemade hats, scarves, etc to clothe myself, family, and friends. all the clutter was starting to slow me down and take away from the experience of knitting. this book gives both meaning to knitting and avenues for sharing it with people who really need it. the sections have up-to-date contact info for various charity knitting organizations as well as patterns and other special instructions (such as yarn type, most needed items, etc.) there are patterns for very beginner knitters all the way through advanced, as well as tips for personalizing and modifying them. this book has definitely put new energy, meaning, thought, and enjoyment into my knitting.

This is an interesting book w3ith both patterns and stories, I would recommend it to anyone who likes to knit and read

This book goes into detail the history behind the knitting charities out there now. Each charity or need is well documented, and information given to provide the reader a wide range of opportunities. Instructions on what and where and how to send to each are clearly explained, as well as the reason it is needed. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how a single item can make such a great difference in the world. Fantastic ideas for clubs looking for a worthy project!

I love this book!! It is so motivating and has some great patterns to help you pass the love along. Well written, there are just enough stories of those in need to push you along without feeling overwhelming.The patterns are also very useful as a source to pass along. I have used the information and some patterns to teach two beginner knitter classes at my church as I was asked to head up getting our ward to make 100 blankets by September. This came soon after buying and reading!!

I avoided getting this book for a really long time because I thought it seemed too new-age and touchy feeley. I finally broke down and made the purchase. Reading this book literally brought tears to my eyes. All I want to do now is knit as much as I can for all the charities mentioned in the book. The designs are simple to read and the back-stories on the organizations are poignant and inspiring. Please don't think twice about getting this and helping out. It's a beautiful way to use your skills to make a difference!
