This book had no main over- arching plot and the chapter stories were mostly uninteresting. The main characters never grow and we don't even really get to know them at all.

I'm surprused this book isn't better known. It's a charming tale of the stories told by an elf to two children.I was surprised, upon reading it, to see the plot-lines of many, many "Prince Valiant" comics from my childhood. Obviously, hal Foster had read "Puck of Pooks Hill!"

Rudyard Kipling. Puck, Roman soldiers guarding the Wall, medieval lords fighting and having adventures, The Wild Hunt. This was written for children, but I still enjoy it. I have an old bound copy, but it was good to see this book offered for Kindle.

I liked this because of it's locality, I lived just by Pooks Hill at the top of Willingford Lane and not far from Kipling's own house. I also enjoyed the historical story of events around the area, and the characters, A childrens' book of it's time.

I ran across this book title in another book I was reading and realized I had never read it. So I ordered it off Amazon for my Kindle and thouroughly enjoyed the story. It would be good for teens and maybe even younger kids to read for themselves, or to be read aloud to youngsters, a chapter at a time, as a bedtime story.

What a surprising delight. Kipling slyly unfolds the history of England (well, the juicy parts) from Roman soldiers at the wall, to Knights of old, Pirates, smugglers, to the Magna Charta. The woodland imp Puck orchestrates these tales to the amusement and awe of two young children. This is called a book of children's tales but no more so than Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.

How can you possibly comment on Puck of Pook's Hill? It is what it is! I cannot vouch for the historical accuracy of the children's adventures in their time warps but it does not need that. This is my favorite book! A Tale of love, determination and purpose! It was beautiful told in a way that you can imagine the characters in your head playing out like a movie! I couldn't put this book down until I found out if Anpao would get to be with Ko-Ko-mik-e-is or not. A book that I hold on to forever and recommend to everyone!

Anpao is written by Jamake Highwater, a Plains Indian. He has created the character, Anpao, a young boy with a human mother and fathered by the sun. What makes this story so extraordinary is that the author has used the character Anpao, as an American Indian Ulysses. He has taken the oral stories of the Plains and Southwest Indians and combined stories and songs from various tribes to create a chronological timeline of the American Indian, as told through centuries of Indian tribal lore and beliefs. Spiced with mysticism, this is a smooth flowing and riveting tale of adventure through young Anpao from the rise of the American Indian, to the collapse of the early Indian culture due to white men's horses, guns, trains, machinery, diseases, and the killing of the buffalo. This is an excellent example of the literature and spirit of the American Indian.

This 1977 extended tale presents many stories transmitted by proud oral tradition—blending the composite of pre Colombianbeliefs and values of several North American Indian tribes. The creation myths (not to belittle their relevance to native American cultures) deal with the cosmos, the genesis of earth, and sky gods; the tales progress to the making of Man, the arrival of Evil in the form of sorcerers; thence to Man’s interaction with many animal “people” (like Raven and Coyote); concluding with the negative and destructive impact of the inevitable collision with White Men. The protagonist, Anpao, does not represent any one heroic figure who is found in all tribal legends. He embarks on a quest to remove the scar from his face and to find his father, the Sun, so that he may ultimately marry a beautiful Indian girl—who serves as his inspiration for a remarkable and painful odyssey to the World-above-the-World. I believe that Highwater has woven hints of the universality of human nature—that there is a touch of Anpao in each of us. We journey through life seeking its very source, meaning and final goal. Arco revised version has much improved than when I last used it in 1992. Scores are still in the 70s and 80s.

The patterns in this book are so cute! There are options for basically everything you could think of. I really liked the pattern for the little bear ears. If you love to crochet and you've got a baby coming to winter, this book is a really great tool to make some nice winter things easily. And they're small so you don't have to worry about a huge time commitment to see a finished product.

I found my new hobby, why not? I purchased this Crochet Pattern for Babies wanting to do something unique for my girls which they can keep until they grow up, and it also is made by their mother. The patterns and instructions are simple to follow, as a first timer in crochet making, I made my first Hat Flower. Thanks Kitty Moore for coming up with this brilliant book, I am sure a lot of mothers will like this book too.

A very nice book that presents a collection of items appropriate for newborns and anyone who likes to crochet. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow.I have a seven-month-old baby and I plan to try some of the ideas.

While I have no interest in crocheting myself, my fiance does and my boss just had a new baby girl. Three terrific true stories about children in need of expert intervention in their lives, who need foster care in the interim. Book one -- a shocking tale of abuse and the resulting very damaged child. Book two -- a newborn baby whose mother gives him up, although she desperately wants to keep him; it's quite a mystery. Book three -- a child whose only parent is dying and has no relatives to take him.My only complaint is that each book is far too long, bogged down with the technicalities -- the rules, paperwork, and the immense amount of bureaucratic red tape. Also far too much about all the social workers involved with each case. In book three, far, far too much about the illness, death and funeral of the parent.Have a box of Kleenex handy.

Each of the stories in this collection was interesting and heartwarming. However, I find myself agreeing with many other reviewers who thought the stories got bogged down with details about the social services and foster parenting programs. I skimmed through a lot of the book, wishing the author would just get on with the story. Other than that, it was well written and held my interest.

Very interesting. I had no idea the amount of paperwork child caregivers had to do..However this was set in England so maybe its different in the USA.It is very difficult to read about the awful things that happen to children...these books are a gift to read about such a giving person who welcomes damaged kids into her home. Not all caregivers are as loving and kind as Cathy Glass.

HEART WRENCHING STORIES. LOVE,COUPLED WITH EXPERIENCE AND DEDICATION OFFER HOPE WHERE IT SEEMS THAT NONE IS AVAILABLE. DI AM SO GLAD THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT ARE WILLING TO RISK THEIR OWN HEARTS TO HELP THE YOUNG AND VULNERABLE.

I have just finished reading the trilogy of fostering children and could hardly put it down. I look forward to reading all of her books

I like the subject matter of this book. The story of a family traveling around the world for a year combined with the reflections of the mom on what she learns about belonging should have been entertaining and enlightening. Instead, I found myself distracted by poor word use at least once on every few pages. The author simply picked words that didn't mean what she appeared (by context) to think they mean. I don't understand why her editor didn't pick up on this. Further, when I read a book like this, I like to learn about other countries and cultures. This author played so loose with the facts that I find it impossible to trust what she has written. For instance, she states that Sydney, Australia, has the 4th highest cost of living in the world. I don't even know how she could have come up with such a glaringly wrong statistic. Here's a quote: "The southern Chinese have a different accent to their Mandarin than their northern counterparts, though I couldn't pinpoint specifics. I just know they do." Well, I know that the southern Chinese speak mostly Cantonese--not Mandarin. There are hundreds of other dialects in China. This author promotes herself as an expert vagabond, yet she doesn't even know that the "Mandarin" she supposedly heard in southern China was probably Cantonese or another dialect--not Mandarin at all. Another quote: "They [referring to Australia] have given us refrigeration, Wi-Fi, and bungee jumping." I'm sure the Netherlands and New Zealand would be surprised to hear that the first bungee jumps (other than those in Vanuatu) and the first Wi-Fi didn't originate in their countries. The author got two out of three wrong in that one sentence. I didn't expect Grisham or Stephen King here, but I did expect a bit more authenticity and much better editing.

I'm really baffled by how well this book is reviewed. Sure, it is easy to read with a good variety or locales, but every chapter seems to lack a theme or actual plot. She goes to a place, comments on the food, teaches her kids a little, makes a few comments and onto the next. I mean, the chapter over Hong Kong is just two and a half pages...what's the point?! Why even include it if you have nothing to say? I have never seen a two page chapter in any book before. Overall, this book is just meh. I would just stick with Bill Bryon, Jamie Zeppa, or Eric Weiner if you're looking for a decent travel writer.

I am a long time fan of The Art of Simple and The Simple Show podcast. I loved following Tsh and her family's around the world adventures while they were happening, but I think I enjoyed reading her reflections even more. At Home in the World is absolutely beautiful. Tsh takes the reader on her journey, and you feel like you are right there with her. This book makes me want to travel and at the same time compels me to make a home. It compels me to spend quality time with my husband. At Home in the World compels me to live life well wherever I am. This will be a re-read for sure.

I was hoping the author would go into more detail about her year abroad, but I found most parts of the book to be very surface level in terms of experiences and anecdotes about the countries she traveled to. Instead she wrote more about her faith, her mental wellbeing, and her relationship/history with her husband... which is all good if that's what you're looking for but it was disappointing for me. I understand that she is blogger so maybe her fans appreciated those touches but I found myself skimming to get to the part where she talked about where she actually was in the world.

This is easily my favorite book from Tsh Oxenreider.For years I've identified with her simple living message, but the heart of that particular message isn't as compelling to me as the heart behind this book: finding a place of belonging, a home in the world, as both a homebody and an adventurer.This has been a central tension in my life for at least the last fifteen years as I have moved, traveled and adventured in North America with my family. Where do I belong? Where is home? How do I even define home? These are the questions I have wrestled with and tried to answer. Sometimes I find an answer for a season, and sometimes the answers I've found don't hold true for the long term.I love the travel stories in this book, to experience the world through Tsh's writing but I also especially appreciate the discussion of home and how we define home, and how we find home. And my list of must-see places in the world is fast growing.The more chapters of this book I read the more I fall in love with the world, both as a geographically diverse place and our home as humanity. I love the world and people more though reading this book. Tsh experiences make me want to travel and trust more and worry less. I want to continue to challenge myself to true new things and be open to people and experiences.I adore this book.renee.tougas.net

Okay. I wanted to love this book. In fact, I've wanted to write something like this book. The author presents herself as being who views traveling as an expression of joy (which she's right in saying is missing from the female travel narrative) but then she spends much of the book in therapy, struggling with homesickness and depression, and being very much not in the moment. I was disappointed. In the book, her husband was having a blast drinking tea with aboriginals and soaking in the experience. I found myself wishing I were reading his travel narrative instead🙄
